Visiting Oklahoma City

My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend 4 nights in The Big Friendly without our kids.(Thank you grandparents) It was a much needed adult getaway. (I’m a stay at home mom who takes her job personally and definitely appreciates her “vacation days”. But more on that later.)

Oklahoma City is the capital of Oklahoma. “Duh, right?” But did you know, that with a population of over 638,000 people, it is the 27th largest US city? It was founded on April 22, 1889. That is 128 years ago, for those counting. You can really feel the history as you stroll through Bricktown and the downtown business district.

The first thing we did was visit the State Capital Building. I love to tour these and have since I was a child. Its also nice to be so close to the decision makers in our political system. It gives me a real since of "For the People, By the People."

Doesn't this Governor William Henry Murray look like Van Pelt from Jumanji?

Next, we enjoyed a fun dinner at Toby Keith I love This Bar and Grill. It's in Bricktown right on the little river that was built in 1999, as part of a huge renovation of the entertainment district. The next day we enjoyed a minor league baseball game at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. We watched the Oklahoma City Dodgers beat the Nashville Sounds. I used to go watch the San Francisco Giants play every summer when I lived in Cali, so I really loved getting back to the ballpark.

This city is full of fun stuff to see and do and I feel like I've only touched the surface. What are some US cities that are on your list to visit? Who knows maybe i'll be in your city next! ;)
